Being an expectant Mom has been a time filled with extreme excitement, amazing physical changes and some nervousness. Every Mom to be is a little nervous. The nervousness stems from the possibility of a miscarriage, physical deformity or some other complication.
My pregnancy was and still is 100% normal. I’m healthy and had no complications. The one disadvantage of a healthy pregnancy is that you only get 1 ultra sound during the entire pregnancy. The ultra sound at the Doctors office happens during the 20th week and can usually determine the sex (if the parents want to know, we did!).
My husband, Jason and I were going to be patient and wait until the 20th week to see the first glimpse of our miracle. During my 17th week Jason and I couldn’t stand it- we had to get a closer look at what was growing inside my belly.
I called a 4D ultrasound location in the area after picking up a brochure at my Doctor’s office. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that there were multiple packages, which made seeing our baby more affordable than I originally thought. They were also able to see us the next day!
We arrived at the ultrasound location tucked inside an office park. I was offered some animal crackers and apple juice upon my arrival. The sugar wakes up the baby and gets him/her moving around.
We entered a very comfortable room equipped with a jumbo projector screen and family sized sofa (for the Grandparents to be and older siblings).
After positioning myself on the table and getting rubbed with warm jelly, I looked up on the big projector screen and couldn’t believe what I saw- my baby.
My husband and I both became emotional as we watched this life kicking and moving all over the place. It was truly amazing. We didn’t expect to see very much detail at 17 weeks, but we were shocked at how developed the baby looked. At this point in the pregnancy I had not felt any kicks or movement. Being able to see activity was so comforting.
The sonogram tech spent time showing us in clear detail that our baby had 10 fingers and 10 toes and all the correct organs and parts. We also learned that we were having a little boy!! You can’t put a price on the comfort of knowing your child is developing properly and looks healthy.
It was truly an amazing half hour. We left the office with a DVD, color photos of our baby and some coupons to come back at a 25% discount. The more you come, the deeper the discounts. By the third visit, you’ve earned a 50% discount.
So far we have been twice, but plan to go again in a few weeks.
On our second visit at 28 weeks, we were clearly able to see that our little boy has his Dad’s nose and is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.
Warning: Don’t be too disappointed when you do get the ultrasound at your Doctor’s office. It is still neat, but one can not compare a 4D ultrasound experience with a 2D ultrasound. On 2D, you can tell it is a baby, but that is about it. The 4D experience gives you a clear view of what you baby will look like.
The 4-D ultrasound experience will leave you feeling even more excited and will give you great piece of mind- that is priceless. If you’re pregnant, it is a must try! You will not be disappointed!
